Math? Coding? Music? Motion? with Chris Atkinson and Therese Forsythe

Recorded March 16, 2022

Session tns file

Absolutely no coding, music, or STEM experience needed! This is a beautiful simple, creative, engaging way to connect to the coding expectations in the Ontario curriculum, and may even help with the upcoming new SNC1W curriculum! Let’s imagine, design, build, and code an accessible musical instrument using math, coding, music, and motion! So much rich design thinking, problem solving, coding, computational thinking, and data science. With TI-Nspire CX II, TI-Innovator Hub, Python & an inexpensive Grove motion sensor, we will make beautiful music together!

Math? Coding? Micro:bits? A Bit Nspiring with Anthony Meli and Paul Alves

Recorded March 9, 2022

Session tns file Completed session tns file

Absolutely no coding or Micro:bit experience needed! This session will gently introduce you to the ways the Micro:bit can help bring coding in the new Ontario Math Curriculum to life for your students. Using the TI-Nspire CX II CAS handhelds or software, we will edit existing code and work with real-world data, all the while using the incredible built-in functionality of the powerful Micro:bits.

Building Algebra Confidence in All Learners using TI-83/84 with Stephanie MacKay

Recorded March 2, 2022

Handout

How can we make the algebra in the new MTH1W course accessible and understandable to all students? Ontario has just now returned to “destreamed” math in grade 9. In the rest of Canada, grade 9 math has been “destreamed” for decades. Stephanie will share strategies that she has successfully used in Alberta to help make algebra accessible and understandable to all her students using the familiar TI-83/84 technology in innovative and creative ways.

Financial Literacy w your TI-84 with Anthony Meli & Paul Alves

Recorded October 27, 2021

Handout

The importance of teaching Financial Literacy to students has been acknowledged by the inclusion of Financial Literacy as a strand in the Grades 1-9 math curriculum in Ontario. This session will focus on the use of the TVM Solver app available on the TI-83/84 handheld that supports student learning in the Financial Literacy strand of the new grade 9 Math Curriculum in Ontario. Included in the session will be an exploration of the new TI-84 supports for the new Financial Literacy in the Ontario MTH1W .

Linear Modeling with your TI-84 with Rick Snow and Therese Forsythe

Recorded October 20, 2021

Linear Modelling Handout and Motion Sensor Handout

We will explore how the TI-84 can bring the linear modelling to life for your students.

Coding FizzBuzz w your TI-84 w Stephanie MacKay & Victoria Cameron

Recorded October 13, 2021

PDF of Session Slide Deck

We will explore how to code FizzBizz , a beautiful, gentle introduction to coding in TI-Basic on your TI-83/84 graphing calculator.

Coding with your TI-84 with Ron Lancaster

Recorded October 6, 2021

Zipped folder of session files

We will learn more about how coding in TI-Basic on the TI-84 can be used by students to solve mathematical problems, tinker, explore and play. There are many benefits for students from learning to code that go beyond using coding for these purposes. Coding provides students with opportunities to be creative, organized and perseverant, especially when the coding does not produce the desired outcome. Takeaways from this webinar will include strategies for finding the time to include coding in all mathematics courses. Although CODING AND MATH may seem like AN ODD MATCHING, it is only true as an anagram.

Light Sensor Switch w Paul Alves & Anthony Meli

Recorded Sept. 29, 2021

Session TI-Nspire file and session Solution TI-Nspire file

We will explore how to code your TI-Innovator Hub using Python on the TI-Nspire CX II CAS to collect brightness data from the built in brightness sensor. We will then explore how to store and model the data. Finally, we will modify our code to create a smart light that turns on when it's too dark on off when its bright enough.

Simulating Dice w Chris Atkinson & Therese Forsythe

Recorded Sept. 22, 2021

PDF of Session Slide Deck - note there is no session TI-Nspire file

We will explore how to code your TI-Innovator Hub using Python on the TI-Nspire CX II CAS to collect brightness data from the built in brightness sensor. We will then explore how to store and model the data. Finally, we will modify our code to create a smart light that turns on when it's too dark on off when its bright enough.

Musical Hub w Fred Ferneyhough & Natalie Robinson

Recorded Sept. 15, 2021
